Fem-Empire on the Rise

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day again, it is high time to take stock of women’s lives in the world today.  Great progress has been made in education and for women more broadly. Still, so much work remains to ensure that women are empowered, educated, safe, healthy and free to be fully participating members of equal societies.  While this is a constant work in progress, it is great to see organizations & people celebrate women’s achievements raise awareness about women’s equality, lobby for accelerated gender parity, fundraise for female-focused charities, Support the role of a homemaker as that of an entrepreneur, welcome women earning higher than their partner or simple single moms running the show.

While we have grown from where were at, we are always caught in a divide with a world bursting with photoshopped images of ideals of beauty, constant objectification and harassment towards women’s bodies, and gaping inequalities between women and men, it’s understandable to feel angry and saddened that these aspects have been incorporated and normalized in our society. One doesn’t even have to enter the realm of statistics to know the obvious truth of how damaging it is to be living in such a society — simply looking around at everyday occurrences is enough. Consider the 10-year old girl complaining about her weight, or the 10-year old boy who, when waiting in the supermarket line, can learn how to objectify the female body simply by scanning the readily available magazine covers of scantily clad women. How do you raise a child in this environment? How do you grow and maintain confidence when every media outlet is contradicting you? How do you carry that confidence with you, throughout your life? The answer is in itself a challenge: To love yourself, unabashedly. To know yourself, to feel comfortable with who you are, to know your faults and your strengths, and to not apologize for them, to surround yourself with positivity, and to be patient and kind with yourself and, by extension, with the world around you

The future is about women. Women leading the way for a better world where they can live fulfilling lives, pursuing their individual dreams and those of their families. Women who are juggling not one or two roles but many many roles. Women who are nurtures as much as breadwinner. Women who love them selves without fear of judgement.

The tools of the 21st century — connectivity, access to knowledge, access to each other — are tools that women can and do put to powerful uses

Internet Society has been meeting and learning from women, in every part of the world, who have used the Internet to become even stronger leaders in their communities, who have become entrepreneurs — in charge of their own economic future, who have embraced technology as a powerful means of communicating and coordinating with their families close and far, who are moving forward and will not settle with being left behind.

Internet society has played a pivotal role in enabling women to take their dreams and ambitions online, to the world. It has helped bridge the gap between needs & wants and create new dreams, a place with no limitation or restriction, it allowed women of today to fly & touch the sky.

In the end as they say, Some made music, some made noise, all made a difference….

This Women’s Day let each of us make some difference!
